ASSOCIATION WOMANS MISSIONARY UNION
Called to Love is the theme for 2009-2010 based on the Scripture Passage: “Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22: 34-40 NIV)
The 2008 fall meeting was held at the SRBA building. The theme was Walking in His Footprints. We were encouraged to continue working towards starting new programs in SRBA churches including WOM, GA’s, Acteens, YOM, CIA and Mission Friends. Our guest speaker was Mrs. Karen Scudder who spoke to us about Christian Women’s Job Corps and the importance of helping young women one at a time.
It is evident that the women in the SRBA WMU take our 2009-2010 scripture to heart. To help support Mission Ministries Director Larry Leming in various Christmas ministries our WMU women collected toys and other items for area low-income housing developments. The WMU women participated in one of the best attended WMU Christmas parties ever. Looking like Christmas morning, tables overflowed with a variety of toys and other items. With laughter, silly Christmas games and remembering the reason for the season, these ladies truly showed what it means to love your neighbor.
The spring meeting was held at Riverview Baptist Church. The theme was Why? Because He Said So. We started the evening off with dinner with Rodolph Dixon, retired Southern Baptist Missionary to Peru. We were entertained with a pre-meeting concert by Cross Tuned who presented good down home Christian music. Donna Britt from South Carolina WMU helped with nomination and election of officers. Rodolph Dixon spoke to us about “Why We Serve” and Donna Britt ended our evening speaking to us about the theme of our spring meeting. It was a great evening enjoyed by all.
As we end yet another year we reflect back on a year filled with mission awareness. Many churches in our association support and give to missions. I think of the mound of toys that filled the SRBA meeting room and the laughter of all those women who so unselfishly gave from their hearts. I think of the ones who listened so intently to. Rodolph Dixon as he spoke to us about his life’s work in Peru. I think of the ones who each week teach our children in Ga’s, Acteen’s, Mission Friends and other Mission Organizations in their local Churches. I know that an hour seems insignificant. But in an hour, life can change forever.
Thank you all for the many hours you give loving your Lord with all your heart, soul and mind and loving your neighbors as yourself.
Sincerely,
Vicki Farrow
