Meet the Beebes: Marketplace Missionaries

Scott and Ashley met in 1994. She was a small town girl from Pickens, SC, and he was a city boy from nowhere in particular, having lived in multiple cities around the country. After a series of “failed” dates with each other, Scott persisted and the two married in 1998 after graduating from the University of South Carolina.
While at USC, they were challenged by mentors to understand and live the Kingdom of God. Scott decided to attend seminary in Texas. While there, he worked in sales for a Fortune 500 company and Ashley developed as an extra-ordinary Kindergarten teacher. The two incorporated ministry in their business lives.
Upon graduation, Scott went to work for Pfizer in Augusta, GA and they made the decision for Ashley to work at home with Brayden, their newborn girl. In Augusta, opportunities for Kingdom living were overlooked by an insatiable desire to be “in ministry” (i.e., making it a vocation). Why? It was Scott and Ashley’s belief that the closer they grew to God, the more their titled vocation should parallel that intimacy.
An opportunity opened for Scott and Ashley to start a church in Texas. Pregnant with their second child Jaxon, they moved back to Texas. For the next four years, the couple learned more about the Kingdom of God, the reality of working intimately with the “raw” lives of people, the institution of the Church and where business fits.
While planting this church, Scott and Ashley realized that they were true “planters” in contrast to a bona fide long-term “Pastor” (not at all suggesting that the two are mutually exclusive). They also embraced their longing to be in the marketplace as it is where the majority of people live and move: Christians, Bankers, Teachers, Muslims, Trades people, Atheists, and Entrepreneurs. Thus, they passed the Texas church plant over to their team to begin another new work.
Scott and Ashley with their three children Brayden (6), Jaxon (4) and Whitt (2) have moved to Bluffton.   Scott will again work for Pfizer in the marketplace while the entire family joins the Crosspoint Bluffton plant, the hub church of ARMS around the Triangle.  Scott will serve as the “Glocal” pastor, impacting both locally in the Coastal region and half a world away in Nigeria where work has already begun in partnership with H.E.L.P. (www.helpwestafrica.org).
