“HUB” Churches: A New Vision of Global Transformation
Upon His ascension, Christ commanded us to go into the entire world, to baptize and disciple people. However, we cannot keep up with the rising population and death rate in the world. Simply adding new churches no longer can be the norm. The exponential reproduction of churches is needed and requires the exponential reproduction of leaders to serve these churches.
Healthy churches who unleash transformed believers into the world, and who multiply churches, fit the Biblical model of the local church Jesus described and the method the New Testament displays in the missionary journeys of Paul, the church multiplier. We call these regional churches HUB Churches.
Planting more HUB churches will result in a farther extension of God's Kingdom. It creates the potential for multiplication of partnerships among all levels of Southern Baptist Life and results in the training of more pastors, staff members, interns and church members as effective leaders. HUB churches create the potential for more non-believers to be exposed to the Gospel and accelerate the development of missional Christians through sharing in the practical experience of short-term mission team participation.
A Hub Church is a body of believers who specifically understand the local church to be a missionary training and sending body as described and modeled in the Bible. Its intended strategy is to train and deploy Christians around the Globe to plant other multiplying Hub Churches. HUB churches can be both new churches and existing churches.
HUB Church Leadership covenant together based upon the following tenets:
Theological
Each HUB church will be Christ-centered and Kingdom-focused. The missional nature of the Heart of God and His revealed Word portray every Christian a missionary and every church a mission outpost on the frontier of lostness. The purpose of the HUB church is to present the Gospel and raise disciples.
Hub Churches teach the Bible. Each Hub Church will understand, teach, and implement the vision of ARMS Around the World. Hub Churches will be contextual (relate to its community and world in a genuine way), yet biblical in its Gospel presentation. The clear exposition of Scripture and the commitment to the inerrancy of the Bible within a creative, innovative and celebrative atmosphere is the desired outcome of each church.
The pastor of the HUB Church will display the biblical qualifications for a pastor/elder as expressed in the Pastoral Letters of Paul (1 & 2 Timothy & Titus). He will be evaluated through an assessment process. Successful completion of the assessment process and evaluation by Orchard Advisory Team will result in funding structure for the planter/pastor.
Strategical
Our strategy flows directly out of our theology. The Hub Church will be a regional sending body of believers. ARMS around the Triangle is an example of a regional strategy designed to multiply planters and churches exponentially.
Each HUB church must incorporate in its DNA (its core make-up) the value and strategy to multiply. It will be expected to develop a systematic approach to the evangelization of the region. Our philosophy for “doing” church is rooted in a regional approach to ministry and mission based upon Acts 13 church at Antioch.
Philosophical:
Each Hub Church will operate upon the meta principle of missions and ministry. Meta means change and emphasizes the church changing its ya’ll come approach to a we’ll go approach. This meta approach to congregational life will be solidified within the parameters of the six core ministry areas: worship, instruction, fellowship, evangelism, prayer and stewardship.
Each Hub Church will be relationally-driven and will seek to maintain a simple style of operation. Remaining Christ centered and culturally relevant are the two white lines of the highway of holiness we see God building to unchurched people and non-believers in our region, state and world.
Structural:
We believe that a healthy church has three basic components:
One on Many: Sunday/Saturday celebrative worship of Jesus Christ; The Bible will be taught in a creative atmosphere of probing questions and sincere proclamation of The Word.
One on Some: Effective, loving relationships developed in small groups will be the underlying support structure of the healthy HUB.
One on One: We recognize the need for authentic friendships. Hub Churches are simple churches, which allow time for these friendships to develop with both Christians and non-believers.
Financial:
Each Hub church will contribute to the ARMS vision so that the multiplication of leaders can accelerate the exponential development of healthy churches. The Leaders' EDGE will be the method used to train and to resource leaders of other HUB churches and the financial arrangements are specified under the covenant.
