Multihousing Ministry – Blessings from Above

Larry Leming
Missions Ministries Director

Multihousing ministry has been and continues to be an area of great passion for me. I think it’s because in this ministry you have the opportunity to build relationships with people and continue to nurture these relationships as you earn the right to share the message of Christ. Another great aspect of multihousing ministry is that it is open to individuals or groups. Anyone with a passion for knowing and loving others can find a home in multihousing.

What is multihousing ministry? This ministry involves building relationships with those who live in multiple family housing units. This can take on a variety of forms such as apartments, condos, highrise buildings, marinas and mobile home parks.

A person or faith-based group begins building relationships through simple acts of kindness or community events such as block parties, service projects, book clubs, cooking classes, after school programs, etc. The purpose of the ministry is to gain access to the individuals or families so that initial relationships can begin and real needs of the community can be assessed. Once these needs are identified, future visits and events are geared around meeting those needs and strengthening the relationships.

The goal is to earn the trust and gain the friendship of the residents. As you meet physical needs, you begin to meet spiritual needs as well. It’s all about Him!!!!!!

Many times I am asked what it takes for a church to begin a multihousing ministry. The answer is simple, really: passion and commitment for reaching others with the love and message of Christ. If your church wants to get involved in this ministry, then begin by finding a group of people with a similar passion for those living in multihousing communities.

Once your group is gathered, meet for prayer and ask God to direct you to a multihousing community in your area. Realize that the commitment to this community is for the long haul, not just a place to hold an occasional event.

When you identify the community, meet the property manager. Let him or her know that your group is there to help them and their residents in any way needed. Always keeping the manager informed about your ministry is essential. Once your group is established in the multihousing community and a sense of trust begins to develop, you can begin to expand your ministry options and offer bible studies, women’s groups, family classes, etc.

In the area in which we serve there are many opportunities for multihousing ministry from low- income housing to high rise apartments, even unusual places like marinas. God has blessed us with many open doors and continues to provide opportunities in areas that were previously closed. It has been a blessing to see this ministry grow over the past four years from an occasional event in an apartment complex to seeing our local churches adopt multihousing communities for on-going ministry.

God continues to bless this ministry. We have seen Him do some incredible things and develop some incredible friendships as the message of His saving grace has been shared with so many. If you or your church would like to become involved or more deeply involved with multihousing ministry, please contact Larry at (843)726-8294 or e-mail him at lcm@islc.net.

God bless you all as we partner together in sharing the message of Christ!!!!
