Treasure Trove of Resources

Treasure Trove of Resources contains reviews of books, resources, and websites that SRBA ministers consider valuable to their ministries. Each month, 2-3 resources will be reviewed and kept on the SRBA website. Read on to discover these gems and how they might help you on your Kingdom journey.

Please note that all resources reviewed here were selected by the ones writing the review. All views presented in the reviews are those of the author and not SRBA or its staff.

In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is a small and fast read, but a powerful one. Author Mark Batterson uses a briefly mentioned Old Testament character, Benaiah, and his courageous act as the basis for this book. 2 Samuel 23:20-21 states: “Benaiah chased a lion down into a pit. Then, despite the snow and slippery ground, he caught the lion and killed it”. Woven throughout the pages are lessons learned from this young man who went from lion chaser to King David’s chief military advisor.
Getting Students to Show Up by Jonathan McKee is a book that has helped me think through how to do outreach events in Student Ministry. McKee gives some great ideas of how to use door prizes and contests to draw a larger crowd and also working on limited budgets.
When it comes to young people, a church leader can get frustrated quick. Nothing seems to work because young people today do not seem interested in what the church does or at least in what most churches do. You may have heard of a church with loads of young people, but if you are like most churches you are not one of them. I can relate.
In Putting a Face on Grace, Richard Blackaby reminds us that we have been forgiven a great debt and we should live like it. The book challenges followers of Jesus to bring life and grace to their relationships, family, other believers, and unbelievers.“Our natural tendency,” Blackaby writes, “is to be ever on the lookout for what will benefit us, not others” (p. 145). It is Jesus living in us and through us that lets us be grace-givers.
